Financial Forensic Expert
My name is Mike Begg and welcome to Mike’s Money Matters. Firstly I would like to point out that we are not FCA registered, we’re simply here to raise financial awareness and to maybe reveal some of the tricks of the trade.
A bit about my background – I first joined banking back in 1980. In 1988, I became a branch manager and when I left in 2000, I was a senior business manager. Let’s say, I could see exactly how banking was going.
From there, I set up my own mortgage company. We became the second largest in Scotland. Between 2007 & 2008, I arranged over 850 mortgages. I only stopped advising in 2017.
In 2012, I set up Beat the Banks, one of the biggest PPI companies in Scotland. Over the years, we have used our banking knowledge to expose many lender PPI breaches. Notably, in April 2015, Clydesdale Bank were fined a then-record £20.7 million. This took many years to achieve. [Needs to be made clearer that the CB fine was partly due to your involvement.] The FCA are now investigating PPI abuses at the Royal Bank of Scotland Group. These are issues we first reported to them nearly three years ago. It’s a sad fact that the wheels of justice sometime run very slowly.
With 38 years in financial services, I have just about seen it all and I want to share that knowledge with you to help you understand how the industry works and to give you some important pointers.
Over the years, I have developed a whole range of tried and trusted contacts covering every sector of financial services. To find out more about any of the subjects I cover, simply click on the link from any page and a fully authorised expert will be in touch to explain more.
